How to prepare for your trade test

Know what will be tested

Every trade test is built around the job the employer needs to fill. A steel fixer may be asked to cut, bend and tie reinforcement to a drawing; a welder may be asked to complete a joint in a specific position and process; a cook may be asked to prepare set dishes to a standard.

  • Read the job requirement carefully — the trade, the level, and any machines, materials or processes mentioned.
  • Ask our recruitment team which tasks are usually included for your trade.
  • Practise the core tasks until you can complete them without rushing.

Quality and safety matter as much as speed

Testers look at the finished work, but they also watch how you work. Accuracy, neatness and safe habits all count. A worker who measures carefully, keeps the workstation tidy and uses protective equipment correctly makes a strong impression.

Tip: If you are unsure about an instruction, ask before you start. Clarifying the task is a sign of a professional, not a weakness.

Bring the right documents

Carry your identity proof along with copies of your experience certificates and any trade or technical certificates you hold. Our team will confirm exactly what to bring for your test.

On the day

  • Arrive early so you are not rushed or stressed.
  • Listen to the full instruction before picking up a tool.
  • Work steadily — a clean, correct result is better than a fast, careless one.
  • Clean up your workstation when you finish.

What happens next

Candidates who pass the trade test move on to interview and selection, followed by the medical fitness test, work permit and visa, and finally mobilization. Each stage brings you one step closer to your overseas opportunity.
